Post Feminism

Post feminism they call it,
A time to put away,
The voices of the women,
Who fought for equal pay.

How cliche it is to be,
A female freedom fighter,
All the while the unseen chains,
Grow stronger, firmer...tighter.

"Honey, sweetie, baby
Please smile while you clean,
After all this is your job,
What being "woman" means."

"Go put the kids to bed,
Then spread your legs so wide,
So I may be the burly man,
Who sticks himself inside."

Too ashamed to stand up tall,
For fear of seeming radical,
All the while our laws and rights,
Are taking a sabbatical.

"Your role is in the home,
And home is where you'll stay
Till maybe, maybe I decide,
To let you have your way."

Is this what we have come to:
A post democratic world?
Where equal right are just a dream,
For every boy and girl?

Post feminism they call it,
And post feminism will be,
The end of what we've cried to have:
Equal opportunity.

Post feminism: a plague that must be aniliated with such vengeful rage that the ground itself should tremble with our collective voices of, "I AM WOMAN HEAR ME ROAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

This poem is certainly graphic, but is displays your point well. I cannot really say that I can relate with you, as I am male, but I certainly agree with you, for what it is worth.

Well when you have Mike as an employer who constantly expects you to be the stereotypical female who takes care of all her male counterparts, cleans the house, AND go to work all while looking like a respectable proper lady...then you start to feel bitter towards people who think that feminism is out of style.

I never want to hear the words "But she's a WOMAN..." EVER again.

hm...i like it, the poem is great with the wording and such, i especially like the sybbatical line :)

but on a negative note, im sorry but modern sexism in my eyes, isnt women fighting for equal rights, but for superiority, yes, women couldnt vote 50 years ago and that IS unfair, but i dont see why i should be told all men are sexist by people who haven't experienced sexism themselves and are just rebelling against something that happened in the 1960's, im sorry :( but that's just my views, i still respect your views and i love the poem

i like it.

nobody appreciates people till they're gone and the husband described will be missing that wife if he ends up living later on.

He probably wouldn't even be able to make his own KD without her, more or less run his own LIFE.

good way of saying it!

Thanks, I really think it's important for the women of our time not to forsake the hard work our foremothers did to give us the rights we have. Liberties aren't always a "given" I suppose you could say. People will *always* try to belittle you as a person and as a woman. It is our job to make sure we don't cower in their presence.
