Wood Upon the Water

Wood upon the water,
What a symbiosis to be,
Fluid, free, but sturdy,
Through insecurity.

To flow amongst the river,
But not diminished as you run,
By plant, pool...person,
Or evaporating sun.

To be free and yet so strong,
To fill an empty heart,
Yet be so cedar strong,
As not to break apart.

To change, yet to remain,
True to who you are inside,
Crystal clear to the eye,
With nothing left to hide.

What a symbiosis we have,
My humble, wooden, friend,
To compliment each other,
Till our very end.

Author's Comments

I found a great comparison used to describe people in the book "Memoirs to a Geisha." They said that people with free spirits, who are easily pulled from one extreme to the other...easily perturbed I guess you could say, have too much water in their personalities. On the other hand, people who are sturdy, unchanging...could watch "The Notebook" without crying, are the people with too much wood in their personalities.

So what do you do if your one of the two? You find your symbiotic opposite extreme and cancel each other's excess elements out.

This is merely a poem about such a relationship I have with someone.

I love relationships like that. I do not have enough water in my life, and it seems like this tree is dying. I hope that this relationship of yours works out for the best.

I hope you find some water for your poor tree...for I think i would be quite sad to see it die :(...Seeing as I have much too much water in my personality I think I can be of assistance in this matter though
:iconwillow-wisp:
how can you have water in your personality?
well that aside, great work Amy :)

i'm really impressed you saw that small comparison between the two movies. and especially wrote a poem about it. that in itself is very impressive. ;)

not only do you cancel each other out if you are opposites, you complete each other...nice metaphor i liked the book you were inspired by as well.=)

Memoirs of a Geisha is a really great book, such simple writing yet such strong meaning.
:iconpoetically-yours:
Actually it's one movie who talked about certain elemental forms being present in people....mostly wood and water.

Yea, I would say that my personality is wood to the extreme. Lucky for me that my wife is of water. Great poem.
